The term Gunpla refers to plastic model kits of mecha, characters, or vehicles from the Japanese Gundam franchise, marketed by Bandai; it is a contraction of "Gundam plastic model." It first appeared in 1980.

Gunpla are classified by series (called "grades") based on their quality and/or size.
