The HG 1/144 BMP4/6 Bau Bahlam from Bandai Spirits brings one of the most atypical Mobile Suits from GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT to the Gunpla line. Piloted by Big Paul, leader of the Red Grit sand pirates, the Bau Bahlam stands out for its massive appearance, aggressive armor plating, and, above all, a spectacular giant chainsaw that forms the core of its visual identity and combat style.

In the world of GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT, Big Paul leads a group of pirates operating around Mars. The Red Grit track down Apocalypse creatures while raiding wealthy convoys to redistribute their resources to the Martian inhabitants. This personality—a brutal but protective fighter—is directly reflected in the design of the BMP4/6 Bau Bahlam.

A massive machine designed for close-quarters combat

The Bau Bahlam adopts a silhouette very different from that of the Gundam Helix or the Calice. Its heavy proportions, large shoulder armor, angular armor elements, and particularly imposing hands give it the appearance of a machine designed to absorb impacts and fight at point-blank range.

The design notably utilizes several reinforced plates and pointed elements on the limbs, reinforcing its melee Mobile Suit aesthetic. Bandai Spirits has sought to maintain this massive presence while developing articulation capable of reproducing the rapid movements seen in the game.

A giant chainsaw as a primary weapon

The most spectacular piece of equipment on the Bau Bahlam is its immense chainsaw. The weapon features particularly imposing proportions relative to the Mobile Suit and constitutes one of the most original designs in GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT.

Its silhouette evokes a gargantuan mechanical melee weapon, conceived to complement Big Paul's extremely aggressive style. Once equipped, it immediately gives the model a presence quite different from that of Gunpla armed with a simple sword or Beam Saber.

Chainsaw starter reproducible with a string

Bandai Spirits has pushed the gimmick even further by reproducing the chainsaw starter mechanism. A flexible string is included to represent the starter cable, allowing you to pose the Bau Bahlam in the act of starting its weapon.

This feature offers a particularly original pose, with the Mobile Suit able to be displayed pulling the starter before combat. It also adds a true narrative element to the model's display, rather than just being a simple accessory held in hand.

The chainsaw can be stored on the backpack

When the weapon is not in use, the chainsaw can be attached directly to the backpack. This storage system allows the equipment to be kept with the model without hindering poses and offers several display configurations.

The Bau Bahlam can thus be displayed with its weapon stowed while on the move, and then fully equipped in a close-quarters combat configuration.

Deployable flaps on arms and legs

Like several other Mobile Suits developed for GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT, the Bau Bahlam features deployable mechanical flaps on its arms and legs.

These panels can be opened independently to modify the model's silhouette and replicate the configurations seen in the game. They also reinforce the impression of mechanical power of the Bau Bahlam by revealing more details beneath the various armor layers.

Articulation designed to replicate in-game movements

Despite its imposing size, the HG benefits from a wide range of articulation. Bandai Spirits states that it developed the model's structure to replicate the fluid and dynamic movements of GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT.

This mobility is particularly important for utilizing the large chainsaw: the arms and body can adopt open positions that allow for simulating heavy attacks, charges, or preparatory movements before a strike.

Customization with other GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT Gunpla

The Bau Bahlam was also designed to work with the GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT line's customization system. Bandai Spirits allows for the use of certain parts with other models in the collection, physically recreating the Mobile Suit customization principle offered in the game.

It thus becomes possible to combine certain pieces of the Bau Bahlam with the Gundam Helix, the Calice, or other compatible models in the range to create original configurations.

The Mobile Suit of Big Paul and the Red Grit

The BMP4/6 Bau Bahlam is associated with Big Paul, leader of the Red Grit sand pirates. This group conducts its operations around Mars, hunts Apocalypse creatures, and protects the local population, notably by redistributing resources recovered during their attacks on wealthy transports.

This context strongly contributes to the identity of the Bau Bahlam: a machine that does not seek elegance but favors a raw, functional, and intimidating appearance, perfectly suited to a fighter accustomed to difficult confrontations.

About Gunpla and Plamo

Gunpla (Gundam Plastic Model) and Plamo (Plastic Model) refer to the famous Japanese assembly models, which have become an essential reference for model-making enthusiasts, science fiction fans, and Japanese culture aficionados. Popularized by Bandai's Mobile Suit Gundam license, Gunpla now includes hundreds of models inspired by the most emblematic Gundam series, films, and universes.

Beyond Gundam, the world of Plamo brings together many ranges produced by renowned manufacturers such as Bandai, Kotobukiya, Good Smile Company, Max Factory, Wave, and Aoshima. Robots, mechs, characters, creatures, vehicles, or original universes, Japanese model kits offer an assembly experience accessible to both beginners and experienced modelers.

Most modern kits are designed to be assembled without glue thanks to a high-precision snap-fit system. Depending on the range, models can also offer advanced articulation, interchangeable accessories, visual effects, decals, and numerous customization possibilities using paint, panel lining, or modeling tools.

Among the most popular ranges are Gunpla Gundam, the RG (Real Grade), MG (Master Grade), HG (High Grade), PG (Perfect Grade) series, but also the 30 Minutes Missions (30MM), 30 Minutes Fantasy (30MF), Figure-rise Standard, Moderoid, Frame Arms, Hexa Gear, Megami Device universes, and many other references from the world of Plamo.

Whether you're looking for your first Gunpla, a collectible Gundam model, or a more technical Japanese model kit, Plamo is a fascinating hobby that combines construction, creativity, collecting, and display through increasingly detailed and innovative models.

Gunpla & Plamo FAQ

Do you need glue to assemble a Gunpla?

Most modern Gunpla and Plamo are designed to be assembled without glue, thanks to an interlocking parts system.

Should you paint a Gunpla?

No. Bandai kits and most Japanese models are molded in colors close to the final rendering. Painting remains optional.

Which Gunpla should I choose to start with?

HG (High Grade) and Entry Grade lines are generally the most accessible for beginners assembling Gundam models.

What is the difference between HG, RG, MG, and PG?

Grades correspond to the level of detail, size, and complexity of the kit. HGs are the simplest, while PGs represent the most detailed models.

What is a Plamo?

The term Plamo is a contraction of "Plastic Model" in Japan. It encompasses Gundam Gunpla as well as many other models produced by Bandai, Kotobukiya, Good Smile Company, and other manufacturers.

How long does it take to build a Gunpla?

Depending on the model, assembly can take between one hour for an Entry Grade and several tens of hours for some Master Grade or Perfect Grade models.

What tools are recommended for assembly?

A hobby side cutter, a precision knife, and files or abrasives are the most commonly used tools to achieve a clean result.
