IBO HG 1/144 - Gundam Zagan

The mighty ASW-G-61 Gundam Zagan joins the High Grade lineup in this 1/144 scale IBO HG version from Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Urdr-Hunt. Inherited from the Calamity War era, this Gundam Frame, preserved for generations by the Issue family, is distinguished by a design entirely focused on close combat and raw power.

The most spectacular feature of the Gundam Zagan lies in its two imposing Shield Pliers Units. Installed on either side of the Mobile Suit, these units can be deployed to form gigantic claws, serving as both protection and close-combat weapons.

Bandai directly reproduces the deployment mechanism of the Shield Pliers Units. Several articulation axes are integrated into their mechanical arms to allow the claws to be freely oriented and reproduce various attack or defense configurations.

The mobility of the Gundam Zagan also benefits from a design adapted to its imposing equipment. The front part of the shoulder armor can move independently so as not to hinder the arm movements, while several ball joints at the shoulders and arms increase the range of motion available for combat poses.

Unlike many Gundams, the Zagan does not rely on a large arsenal of firearms or handheld weapons. Its fighting style mainly exploits the physical strength of the Gundam Frame and its Shield Pliers Units, giving it a particularly original silhouette and identity within the Iron-Blooded Orphans universe.

Zone Gunpla Tips

The Shield Pliers Units are the core of this model and feature several successive articulations. When deploying them, manipulate each section directly at its axis rather than pulling on the end of the pliers to limit stress on small parts.

The contrast between the dark armor and the mechanical details of the Gundam Zagan is particularly well suited for panel lining. A few metallic details applied to the joints, pistons, and mechanisms of the Shield Pliers Units can also enhance its mechanical appearance.

For the most aggressive poses, take advantage of the shoulder and arm mobility to position the two pliers around the body or widely deployed to the sides: it is in these configurations that the atypical silhouette of the Gundam Zagan truly comes into its own.
